I had the beeps fail on mine. It was still in warranty so Garmin asked for it to be RMA'ed and replaced it with a spangly new (re-conditioned) one. bleeps loud as buggery now but the signal acquire is slower to begin with. A club mate also had the same problem and resolution

Your 305 should beep when you switch it on - try putting pressure on the frame of your 305 when you switch it on (i.e. place your thumb firmly on the "Forerunner 305" text) and the beep might be louder - this is a design fault.

However, it will only beep when you turn it on if you have the tones set up though.

Best thing to do is switch it on and then navigate to the Settings menu, then General and System. Check the setting against Tones. If it says either 'Key and Message' or 'Message Only' then in theory it should be beeping.

If you select Key and Message then you should hear a beep every time you press a button.

Wow, I actually do have beeps, however I have to hold my 305 so close to my ear it touches the drum!

Yes mine beeps very quietly when I press the buttons but can't hear that beep on alerts when running. I tried cleaning out the speaker holes with a thoothbrush (don't worry I didn't use mine, used hubby's, he won't mind, it's not as bad as when I've cleaned the toilet with it when we've argued!;)) but that didn't make a difference anyway!

Does anyone know why does most of my runs get longer when I upload to Motion Based? Not that I'm complaining, I then use the longer distance in my stats! It is not much of an increase, upto 2/10 mile over ten miles, but it does get longer. Do the GPS co-ordinates get re-mapped by motion base?

I may be wrong but it could be that motion Based uses map data instead of gps data for calculating distance, but then if that was the case, i would of thought that some runs would be slightly shorter as well.

Actually when i think into it i probably am wrong because you would need the gps data to get the map data.

ok - I don't know if anyone can help with this qu:
When I ran my HM today, I noticed that I'd beaten my 5km, 10km & 10mile PBs. Is there anyway I can get those times from my stats ? (my garmin is set to record laps by the mile).
I can manage to get my 10mile time but the newfangled techmology has defeated me on the rest :(
