Cheers Badger, looks like I'm stuck with the unreliability. I've set it to autopause if I have to stop for crossing roads etc, how reliable is that function and if you lose GPS signal does it pause timing or recognise that it's lost signal rather than your speed becoming 0mph?

Autopause is just really irritating; pauses when you don't want it to, doesn't start again quickly enough, and yes if you lose GPS by something as simple as running under a short bridge it's likely to pause and restart. Most folks play with it for a couple of weeks and then turn it off and never use it again.

It's a shame you can't trial gadgets like this before buying as I doubt I'd have bothered if none/few of the functions are reliable. What a gyp.

I had Autopause set on my 305 while training for my first GNR, and didn't switch it off for the race. After the start I went on the low-level road at the junction, and came up from the "tunnel" having lost nearly 2 minutes to autopause. I didn't realise this and missed my target by almost exactly that time!

My autopause is off.

Dod.ge, a 305 is a top-flight gadget, very very useful; autopause is the only really dodgy thing about it - nice idea but more trouble than it's worth. Some things take a bit of work to learn your way around. Some things are just brilliant - for example, workouts - really useful for speedwork training if you don't have easy access to a track.

Help I need the Garmin history from this marathon or any other marathon!

I know this is not the most appropriate place for this posting but I am a bit desperate.

I am doing a final year college project, and the task it to build a marathon forecasting model on data from Garmin data and I had proposed to use my Garmin data from the Dublin marathon as the data set.

The problem is that when I conceived this project I was running on my own and I had expected large variations in my pace due to what I perceived as my poor level of fitness and inexperience. I ran with an experienced marathoner, icklechick, and there is almost no variation in our pace. We did an average of 8:32 minutes per mile and our variation was so small that 99% of the time we were between 7.5 and 9.5 minutes per mile. The result is that the model is very simple and almost trivial.

I am looking for Garmin history data and the ideal history will come from someone who has had one or all of the below on any marathon:

Had to walk a few times,
Changed their pace at the water stations,
Changed their pace on the hills,
Did not rigorously follow their pace band,
Did not closely track the Garmin virtual partner.
Walked the course with variability in your pace.
Finished in a greater time than planned.

I can accept data from a Garmin device or as an exported from the Garmin software.

If you reckon that you might be able to help out please send me an fmail.

Many thanks

Helllp! My Garmin is dead! :( One minute it was fine, I'd uploaded my run into computer & it was charging. I needed to hibernate the PC so took the garmin off the cradle. I've just tried to log my training here and the garmin is as dead as a dodo, won't switch on, won't charge (via PC or direct to mains). Help, I'm starting to hyperventilate! :(
