Anyone know how to get activity profiles back on a Garmin 45s? Son updated his overnight a few weeks ago and it apparently removed his Bike activity type, and despite adding it back in on the Connect app it's not showing on his watch. (On and off again has already been tried!)

Posted the above query a few weeks ago and Badger made some suggestions which I passed on to my son, but he reported they didn't work.

So I grabbed his watch and took a look at (I think) the Activities folder (not the "activity" folder, but the precise name escapes me) which had .fit files for each "normal" activity type - but there wasn't one there for Cycling (there was an indoor cycling one).

Grabbed my wife's 45S and did the same, and she had a file on there named something like "cycling.fit" so copied that from her watch, pasted in into his, and then got him to add / remove the activity type again via the Connect app, re-sync and reboot. And ta-da it is back.

Just thought I'd post to conclude! May not help anyone else!

[Edit, maybe it was in the "sports" folder]

That is the activity profile. I believe it sets which data page and fields are shown. I think it lives in 'sports' as well.

Sounds right; odd that it was missing as the only thing he'd done was an update, but glad to get it fixed.

In some ways Garmin's are rather old school in that they still mainly rely on presence of certain files in certain directories. Something I definitely approve of :-)

Anyone here encountered 'cadence lock' on their Garmins, when the garmin counts steps instead of heartrate.

I've noticed that on some of my runs my heartrate seemed unusually high given the effort I was putting in, researched it and found out about cadence lock. The high heartrate is about my cadence (180'ish), so would make sense.
The solution's I've seen are to wear the watch tighter or to try keep it warm (!!)

I used to get it with my 920XT (a watch that was apparently notorious for it - I've seen runs from Steve Way where he got it too), but never with the 955 I've got now. The solution is to buy a new watch ;-)

Here's an old example, it goes into cadence lock at about 2½km. I was wearing a HRM chest strap and it still did it!

That's the usual answer; it's effectively getting confused with the light getting in under the watch to the sensor which is probably bouncing up and down in time with your cadence.
