52 min Vs 34 is a massive difference though. The predictor should expect you'll run at a certain HR% so that gap seems to high. It technically doesn't feed the race time into the predictor btw, but the stats should mean it is close.

What was the stats for the 5k?

SPR, that firstbeat FAQ is from 2 years ago. I would wager it isn't like this in the current watches as they are constantly updating metrics as the HR/HRV data gets better on newer version of the Elevate platform (the Garmin HR optical sensor)

It's clear that it's using that formula for cycling though in the absence of data. The question is how it's then updating running with data but not data that has a max.

larkim fitness age has changed on the newer watches which is why I don't currently have one showing.

SPR, Pen has had her watch a couple of weeks, I reckon it might take a while to settle.

Pen, do you wear it 24/7 or just for activities? (I reckon that might made a difference)

There's settle and then there's wild though. Basic numbers would make it hard for a predictor to be that far out unless it's getting some dodgy data that doesn't form a good trend.

yep, you might be right. I would always check max HR on the watch and GCM, as well as age, height, weight etc. just to check everything is as it should be.

Somewhere else I’ve read that equation 210 - (0.65-age)
has 213- (0.65-age) for females, but can’t remember where
Using my Garmin deduced fitness age, that calculation gives me
a max HR of 178.

My Garmin’s detected max hr has been set at 177 for ages.

The max I was using a few years ago was 183, but I haven’t run anything like a test since, so I”m quite happy using 177/8 as a number

- unless, of course, the fitness age is calculated fromnthe detected max?
(I don’t think that’s the case as mine only seems to change with my weight)

My predicted times are suddenly very reasonable after July’s 50 miler and two low mileage months, they had been completely unobtainably quick.

My predictions have gradually been approaching realistic values in the period that I have been doing a lot more shorter work in my attempt to improve UTMOST WAVA points. Here are some actuals vs current predictions for the times that Fetch marks in gold for recent:
Current pred. Vs. Current actual
5 km 24:16. 24:45
10 k 51:14. 53:25 (starting an infection that day)
Half 1:56:25. 2:04:09

This is an example of the prediction moving towards the actual of 24:45:
