Phew, I've got a meeting in a sec, but yes, I don't get a 'Training effect' from my Zwift rides in Garmin Connect either. (I use the 'Elevate for Strava' extension to get that - and you can see the TSS from the 'ride summary' screen at the end of your ride in Zwift if you can bring that up before you exit). However, overall Training Load does increase with those rides, and VO2max changes.

Does anyone know if there is a way to set up notification that the HRM strap is low and battery needs replacing? I got caught out last week.Maybe a widget?

I thought it showed the battery status in Garmin Connect and like Bowman my watch gives me a pop up when the battery is low.

It does say battery level in GC ios app on the activity when its been used, but its always full for me, and says "battery ok". (HRM PRO). So ive never seen it go down before the watch told me.

I'm pretty confident that my Fenix 5 gave battery warning pop-ups, but sometimes the battery would just go without warning. My current HRM seems to have done this, it was dead this morning (though my watch could see my other sensors) but I didn't see a pop-up last night when I was using it for over an hour.
When the sensor is connected, there's an information page for it within the sensor menu and that will include the last battery status info it sent, so you can check it actively. It can take a couple of minutes before it sends a battery status message.

You didn't day what brand. Just FYI and for others with the same brand, Wahoo TICKR doesn't transmit battery level or even show it in the Wahoo app.

That might make it more complicated than just brand alone - my Tickr FIT (the rechargeable optical armband) sends battery status over ANT+ and shows more detailed charge level in the Wahoo app (if you haven't run the battery dead just trying to get the app to notice the band sitting two inches from the phone broadcasting its socks off).
