With PPG (optical) heart rate you can also see breathing rate in the slow offset changes.

Was amused to have my watch report a 1 mile record of 8m20 last night, despite the fact that that same watch also shows records of 18:14 for 5k which it's obviously dragged from Connect, and that even this weekend I'd run a couple of miles at 7m40 pace!

Presumably I'd inadvertently deleted the record, but it did make me smile; I've now got a target to beat :-)

haha ,I got similar on Saturday where it reported a new mile PB from my parkrun, but I know I have done 6 faster miles in a row during a 10k so assumed I had deleted history at some point

Wearing the watch at night I used to see 6 breaths per minute as the lowest rate, which I took with a pinch of salt

Raised the "sawtooth" elevation issue with Garmin and they are offering a warranty replacement. My only reticence is that the watch is only 4 months from purchase and only 2 months in actual use, but their offer is of a "Newly Overhauled (NOH) Device". I'm guessing because they don't hold stock of brand new devices any more.

What's been people's experiences with their refurb replacements? As good as new? Or risking looking a little worn?

Generally the refurbs look like new - spotless. The only thing to keep an eye on is battery consumption. I once had a garmin 230 refurb sent to me that used 10% a day in watch mode. Luckily they then sent me a boxed new 235 to replace it.

So yes, fine but watch out for a worn out battery!

I've had my Fenix 5X replaced with a refurb several times (I think I'm on my 4th or 5th) - and I echo JaJoKo's comments; they look like new, but battery life can be a problem.

My wife had similar experience with her 5S (they eventually replaced hers with a brand new 5S plus, which has been fine)

Our experience has been that they're ok if you get a good one - but once you're in the "replace with a refurb" cycle, you may be there for a while.

Thanks both. I'll add a battery widget to my current one to get a sense of what battery life "ought" to be to give me a benchmark. Worth a try with a replacement device, but if I can't get past the sawtooth elevation issue at least I can just disable the impact on training files via fetch etc. and still get some of the benefit of the altimeter when out and about.
