Both my 3 & 5 have cases that look like they've been scraped along several stone walls (mainly because they have several times) while the sapphire glass is unmarked. if you're spending daft money on a watch it seems mad not to spend some more for the sapphire.

Another vote for screen protector. _ fell on my old garmin 235 and scratched the screen. Garmin quoted £80 to fox so I didn't bother. I have the 245 now with a cheap protector

Sigh
Based on the good advice on this thread, I've bought a screen protector for my 245 (pack of 3 for £5). Amazon did their usual excellent delivery service, but the packaging seems a bit OTT! |

Sigh, I did the same. Ordered yesterday and turned up today. Not sure if it’s a new thing but I’ve not had it before. As the device was a valuable object that was a ‘one time passcode’ emailed to me and I had to tell the courier that passcode before he’d hand the device over. I guess it helps stop packages going missing. There’s been some bargains on there, not just running stuff. I’ve been waiting for a new coffee machine, wireless headphones and camping stuff and saved loads compared to usual prices on things I do need. I do feel bad not shopping local but the savings are significant. |

After issues with my Fenix 5x dying after 9 hours during the Spine my early arrival home has at least allowed me to order the Fenix 6 on prime deal 😜

Very true! Damn fine effort anyway, I'd have been catching up on sleep under a tree somewhere long before I could get that far. 👊🏻

On the older barometric garmins it used to be possible to calibrate the altimeter by putting in a waypoint with a known height, and then the device would take that as gospel when passing close (no idea how close!) to the waypoint and recalibrate. This doesn't seem to be available on the 5/5+ range, and the only calibration you can apply is a manual point-in-time one. Am I missing something? Finally got around to looking at this as today's run was recorded as pan-flat ... at -500m! I'm assuming this is the minimum Connect can display, as the overall ascent was about right which implies that the actual variation is recorded accurately, but just massively offset. |
