Curve is the service that was suggested to me to allow unsupported bank cards to be used with Garmin pay, flanker.

Or just open a Starling account and pop a bit of cash in it.

I got a Santander account and card and just use it with for my Garmin as pocket money.

I quite like running without my phone!

When I need it I use my bum bag. It's got lots of safety gear in and a bladder. :-) G

Does Starling require all the usual faff with ID / "know your customer" etc to get an account up and running? I was really impressed (surprised) with Curve that it took literally a few minutes on my phone to get that working and I could use it the same day, with the physical card arriving a few days later. (Not strictly a conversation for this thread, but hell why not!?)

Other than run commuting I have only run with my phone once. That day I expected (and received) a call to say cut the run short and get home quick.

Starling is really easy to set up. I got one just to use with my fr945.

Same as Curve. Photo of id, short video of you via the app and the account is open and running later the same day. Can use on Garmin Pay straight away with the physical card turning up a few days later.

I now never carry any cards, just top up Garmin Pay and use my watch!

Agree that Curve was dead simple to set up. I also opted for a Santander card as well just in case the Curve option ever fails. Belt and braces and all that.
(I also was closing some dormant card accounts down and I tend to have one that is used for back-up purposes anyway).

Just back from my first trot out with the 6X as it didn't get an airing last night due to faffing around with all the options.

Impressed so far. Build quality is far better than what I was used to with the 630. Size is perfect (was worried the 'X' may have been a bit too large for my wrist). Weight was obviously more noticeable but not excessive and obviously I was more conscious of it this morning. Display - a lot clearer and bigger! I'm having to wear reading specs a lot more these days so that's a huge bonus for me.

I opted for the optical HR this morning instead of my usual strap so will be looking at outputs later.

Having to use buttons throughout is going to be my biggest stumbling block I think having got used to a touchscreen over the last 5 years.

DCR article on Wahoo track mode but also compares the Garmin and Coros versions. Note that apparently Garmin and Coros can officially deal with tracks that aren't 400 as long as they have parallel straights.

Thanks very much for the info on Curve, I had no idea it existed. Just set it up and am shortly going to try and link it to Garmin Pay on my Vivoactive 4
