I'm collecting mine from Argos Big_G for £530. It could be found for around £514 elsewhere with longer delivery times and I noted late last night (after I'd already purchased it) that Amazon had it briefly listed for around £479. That seems to have gone back up again this morning.

I was a little miffed having not seen the Amz price earlier but as I had about £100 worth of Nectar points I haven't had opportunity to shift (and I'll pick up another £10's worth with this purchase) - Argos still probably made best sense to me.

HoD just make sure you get a RoW version not an AsiaPac version. The AP versions are cheaper but run different software which is updated later (due to the language support).

I was hoping that any 955 would have taken the larger and higher resolution screen from the Fenix 6 primarily.

I can't see me having any need for the LTE feature and I certainly wouldnt be paying a monthly subscription for having its connectivity either.

I think DC Rainmaker referred to it a 'middle child' offering. I sort of feel I fell nto that when I got the 630 and wanted a more polished offering this time.

I presume the LTE offering is just what the Apple watch offers in terms of being independently connected to mobile signals without needing tethering to a phone all the time.

Makes sense for an Apple watch or other watches where the "smartness" is key, so I suppose if the 945 is pitched in that way as being an "apple watch but with garmin sports capabilities" then it has a niche.

Ah, now just read a bit more - the LTE capabilities are quite limited to a "walled garden" of stuff Garmin wants you to do. So no SMS on your watch or handling phone calls unless you've actually got your phone with you.

$5.99 a month to avoid having to wear a flipbelt with a phone in it seems a bit steep, but I know how passionately some people reject the idea of carrying phones (seriously, people - try a flipbelt and tell me that you can even feel you're wearing it) so there's definitely a market for having some connectivity whilst out and about; though those who are phone averse have presumably been happy enough to be uncontactable during training and racing up to now?

Lol, I'd never take a phone with me running unless I was running with a bag.

In fairness, most of my running I do do without a phone around, but I do tend to want to listen to a podcast if I'm on a long run or want it around if I'm doing some running after dropping one of my boys at an event or a training session in case I'm needed to return earlier than planned due to injury or other unforeseen events!

I'd also rather have my phone on me than in a bag at an event so I tend to use the flipbelt in races. I know it means I'm carrying a few hundred extra grams of weight but again it just makes getting back in touch at the end of races easier, and provides reassurance just in case of having to DNF on a longer course.

But I can't recommend a flipbelt highly enough as the best way to carry a phone without noticing. It just works; maybe I'm lucky that it happens to fit me perfectly.

I would run without phone until I broke foot and had to limp 4 miles back home.I dont like flip belts but do find that Flanci make thigh pocket on shorts and skorts and this is a godsend. Before that would have to wear a bumbag to carry phone especially in races and long runs.

Thanks.

I've never seriously looked at the higher end models. I currently have a 735XT and really the most important aspect to me is accurate HR for day-to-day running. For 80%+ of my runs I only have distance and HR displayed and I run with a chest strap, but my strap doesn't support the running dynamics functionality, which I would like. I would also like the maps and I'd make use of the Garmin Pay, but I'm not bothered about music. Am I being old fashioned or overly concerned that the Fenix only has a wrist based sensor (as does my 735XT) without a bundle that includes the HR straps? Does anyone know if there are ever any bundles available with the straps, or is it not a concern with the Fenix 6X Pro and people find the newer wrist based sensors more accurate (the one on my 735XT is very poor in terms of accuracy, except probably for RHR it's not too bad)?

I'm wondering whether to wait until Prime Day, especially if on occasion a bundle comes up.

(No doubt these questions have been done to death in the past, so apologies for going over what is probably old ground).

On the subject of taking a phone, I always take mine. I like taking photos now and then, and when I injured my calf 3 miles from home, I was able to get in touch with Katie to get a lift.

I upgraded to an iPhone 11 (after having an iPhone 8 for 3+ years) and was worried about it fitting in my pocket - but I have a batch of these shorts, and it fits just fine and doesn't move about at all: amzn.to
