suspect I'm having similar issues with my (new) forerunner 45S - it's taking ages to get satellite fix and then the route is shifted by about 100m...

The distance was fine for me and the shape was correct, just shifted so as a one off issue I'm not too fussed TBH.

I'm not sure that would explain a constant deviation throughout a longer activity? I'd expect the GPS would "true up" it's location during the activity if it was just the ephemeris data being out.

... and if it was the ephemeris file I'd expect it to affect all models that use it.

... although I did notice that today took significantly longer than usual to get a good lock, which would tie in with this.

... can you tell I'm thinking about this on-the-fly :-)

One site I read did suggest a constant error was a typical symptom, with the run being shifted a distance to the left / right / up / down though the broad direction being correct.

Doesn't mention the 45/45S though, but I'll check on my son's as he got one for Christmas.

It’s mainly the current generation units using the Sony chip, I think yours is Mediatek still, isn’t it?

It does gradually return to the correct location, but once you’ve started recording, the filtering seems to correct the offset very slowly. Like this from a friend, where out and back should be the same:

Mine didn't correct at all. It was a constant shift.

SPR, was yours a loop or an out and back? Got the impression it self corrects better in the out and back type routes.
