I'm definitely tempted by the band as would like reliable race data if I can get it. Price is a bit steep though given I only need it for races.

Strap is fine outside of race. I am making the assumption that I won't mind having a band round my upper arm band in a race which could be incorrect.

@pja61: I had the exact same frustrations and questions as you about the barometric altimeter on my 645. It appears that if it is inaccurate you have only one choice - to manually click the Correct Elevation button in Connect on every activity, there is no way of automating this. I used to get 1500 feet elevation on Cardiff parkrun which is almost entirely flat.

Has anyone tried wearing their optical watch on the inside of their wrist? Just a comment by a club mate (who hasn't tried it) made me wonder whether that could be more accurate at high intensity.

I actually got a decent and believable optical HR trace in a track race for the first time today wearing it as normal.

My 735x gives one good trace in 4, roughly. I got more believable numbers and graphs from the old fitbit and the silly Apple watch husband bought me also looks more realistic.
I shall try wearing it on the inside and see what it says!

Rosehip - 735xt has the older optical unit. 245 I have is newer. For me, it seems to be fine for easy to moderately fast running (certainly seems fine in race warm ups) although I still use the strap as I know that is more reliable but has failed in races (where I don't want to use a strap) until possibly today.

Let us know how the experiment goes. I might try it in a track race if I have any more this year.
