Sorry, to clarify if I had an accurate reading of my Max HR I wouldn't have changed it. I don't so the data was implying it was set too high so I have moved it down.

Njo - Re 571, no that's not right. Garmin have changed their predictor because VO2 Max is not the only factor in your performance, especially for sub VO2 max efforts.

X-post, fair enough to change it is it's not accurate but don't get hung up on the predictor. If you get a newer watch, it will predict slower.

Maybe do a max test to get a true max.

Definitely not too hung up on the prediction as it was very clearly very wrong. And now I know a bit more about it I will be even less hung about it.

For some reason when ever I have tried a max HR test the data has always been impacted by a random spike which has always impacted the results and I haven't used the HR data enough for me to be more proactive about getting a better reading.

Njo - Presume you're using the optical HR for your test? If you are, try using a strap instead.

njo - you said you lowered your max hr from 79 to 74 :-o :-o

Did you mean 179 to 174, or did you mean resting hr ??

I'm sure your max hr is a lot higher than 79 !!!

I have used a strap in the past (like more than 5 years ago) but it don't have it any more.

um
I just did a 1.8 mile walk, quite a few pics of deers, 48 mins, and my garmin said I needed 6 hours to recover. Does seem a bit excessive.
