Hmm but doing a warm up before a race to be advised when you stop that you should rest for 14 hours is not in my mind the slightest bit of use.

I have always found the recovery indicator to be pretty good but after lowering my Max heart rate (from 79 to 74) to try and improve the race predictor the recovery has gone out instead. After an (admittedly hilly) but not fast 13k trail run on Sunday it gave me a recovery of 58 hours and it gave me a recovery of 19 hours after my cycle commute home which is only about 20 minutes. Race predictor has gone from extremely unlikely 16:47 to just very unlikely 18:04. I find the recovery info is more useful than the race predictor so unless it settles down I'll shift the max HR back.

It usually says train as normal for lengths around that time so while it's saying it will take that long to get back to baseline, it's not saying it's a issue. If anything, stressing the heart and legs a little before the full effort, is precisely why we warm up. Now that I have optical HR I will start having race HR data again but I stopped wearing straps for races years ago. It only relates to the heart anyway. There are situations where the heart will be fine but the legs will be trashed. |

Njo, no point changing HR for the race predictor if it's now wrong. The race predictor is simply a look up table on the watch you have so either correlates for you or doesn't.

This is why the predictor has been changed on the newer watches.

SPR the lookup table on the old watch’s is based on VO2Max to altering Max HR will affect VO2Max and with therefore change the race predictions.

Yes, but my point is, changing your max to an incorrect value just to fit in with a lookup table doesn't make sense. If the race predictions were some science that said your max is wrong then changing your max might make sense. |

Thanks CW, that was partly where I was coming from. The race predictor being so far out was just an indicator to me that the data inputs were wrong in some way and max HR was the likeliest candidate. My VO2 max was predicted at 61 which is probably way too high. Now down to 57.

This has quite a few of the values from the lookup table: cicerunner.wordpress.com So basically njo needs to change his max by enough to get it from 61 to 51/52. |
