Garmin do actually have an app (Explore) that will store activities on the phone until it gets a connection, but it doesn’t work with that many watches and doesn’t support steps and so on. Can’t get my copy talking to my watch at the moment, anyway, which isn’t a good sign.

They also have Garmin Training Center, for those with a pc. Runs and stores locally without internet use.
Just ‘old’, ie pre Garmin Connect

Garmin Training Centre always struck me as the largest program with the least functionality I have ever seen. The app would just need to connect to the watch via Bluetooth or WiFi, work out the model, find the .FIT files then either ask the user which one(s) to process based on date or have a config setting that worked out which ones were new, if no interweb, store on the phone then when an interweb was available, send the data to the relevant APIs of the activity tracking websites the punter uses.

I’ve just been for a 1 mile walk - my Vivoactive logged it as 16.5 miles.

Can I borrow it for my next marathon?

“no indication that this outage has affected your data” isn’t all that reassuring.

I have even more in Sporttracks - lot of old files with gps tracks there and only summaries in Fetch, I think.

Same here badger, thankfully. At least until ST goes the same way!

I'm in the very early stages of an app (i.e. unlikely to done this year!) that will connect to (at least) the Fenix range. The primary purpose is installing maps which have a usable range of detail (eg. the Talky Toaster ones) but if I get that working, downloads should be doable without too much work.

If the current outage continues this may get a higher priority :-)

Flanker you can just use talkytoaster maps directly on the newer Garmins. I have them installed on my 945.
