oumaumau, try another battery just in case the same one was dud. They should wear out. I haven’t tried any third party ones, mine is Garmin and it’s rock solid.

Yes oumaumau, can login in to Connect.

I have now ordered a Suunto. Looked like better performance for less money. I've only ever had Garmins, so let's hope I can learn to use it.

that seems like a case of throwing money at a problem that doesn't need it! If you think the infrastructure surrounding Garmin is dodgy, wait 'til you try Suunto :-/

The only downside I've seen with Suunto is that you need to do everything on the site, rather than the watch itself - otherwise they are more or less as bad as each other...

Anyone know why my training sometimes updates from watch directly to wifi but other times it must connect to phone via bluetooth first?

Uh oh! Now thinking the Suunto might not be the Holy Grail.

RR, assuming you have a recent Garmin like a Fenix, its preference is always for Bluetooth, so if it can see its bluetooth connection to the phone it will always use that. Even if the phone has no internet connection at the time! It will only use wifi if the phone isn't visible over BT. It will be far faster over wifi than BT!

You can force a sync over Wifi on some watches by using th sync on the control wheel then pressing Arrow down to select Wifi.
