R4R & Ness, thank you for your kind offers. One of the members at the club had one.

I'm pretty certain that mine's now died irrepairably. It switched off at mile 25.99 of the Robin Hood Marathon, then at mile 12.5 of the Great North Run. It was fully charged on both occasions.

I charged it today. Turned it on. Was fine until I pulled it out of my pocket to go running - it was off. Pressed the on/off button. Nothing. Tried hard reset. Truned it on and switched off almost instantly.

Anything else I can do? Can I get it repaired? Or is that it, and I've got to go to the shop and get a nice sparkly new 310XT?

1. try the hard resetr / soft reset first.
2. (probably) sounds like a duff internal battery connection. Send back to Garmin for refurb. £50 if out of warranty for a new unit (and it's warrantied for extra 12 months so a good deal in my book).

DeeGee, it might just be the battery that is dead.

my shiny new 305 arrived last night heart I think everything is as it should be but there didn't seem to be a cable to link the charging cradle to the plug in charger. There was a USB so I charged it using the PC. Is there something missing from the box or is the AC adaptor mentioned in the instructions something you buy separately? Charging via the PC seemed v quick so not really a big deal I suppose.

Susie-my wife's arrived this morning. If you look at the top of the plug you should see a port for the USB cable to plug into. Basically you use the same USB cable as you did on the computer but from the plug to the cradle instead of the computer to the cradle...

ah thanks Mikey. I had a feeling that it might be the same thing but it explicitly says AC adaptor in the book and I was a bit worried about blowing it up!! dying to get out of work and go and use it now :-)

Siân's birthday is a week on Monday. I've told her I should make sure it works before I give it to her but I don't think she likes the idea...
