I had that battery flat thing just before a marathon.

Someone on here said that when u take it out the cradle turn it on then off again. I think what happens is that whilst charging it turns itself on without telling u and then the battery runs dry

Mine turns on if I turn the 'puter off before removing the garmin from the cradle.

I have been getting some weird heart rate spikes at the beginning of runs. Is this the Garmin finding my heart rate or should I consult the nearest cardiologist.

Almost certainly the former, I used to see that too. I got rid of it by getting in to the habit of moistening the strap (just give it a good old lick), and making sure it's at the right tightness (I have a couple of safety pins now to prevent the sliding thing slackening off inadvertently).

Thanks, I'm glad its not just me that this has happened to or I would need to see the doctor. I noticed that some of the spikes occurred when the strap slipped, so I wasn't too worried about those but I will try licking the the back of it now.

Does anybody know how long the battery lasts in the heart rate strap?
Once again, thanks for putting my mind at ease.

I can only tell you how long my first one lasted - about a year (of reasonably heavy use - say 5 days per week average, and perhaps about 2000 miles). I'm currently on second battery now.

Mine is just coming up on 500 miles so I don't think I'll worry about the battery causing the spikes.
Thanks again.
