I've been going out for my lsr's early Sunday morning and I'm getting to the really long runs now. I wanted to know what are the best foods to eat before I go out to give me enough or more energy? I'd be eating about 2 hrs before I go.

Thanks

I normally have muesli mixed with soya yoghurt and honey, or a bowl of porridge if it's cold. Not two hours before though - I'd be starving again by the time I started! I eat about 30 - 45 minutes before setting out. During a run, I like chocolate or jam sandwiches towards the end if I get hungry.

Porridge with honey, or bagels with honey. If I've got less time before the run I eat those nutrigrain breakfast bar things as they seem to be easier to digest during the run.

During the run I've generally coped by using iso drinks and jelly babies but I've started to experiment with gels this year.

I can't face much first thing in the morning, so I would probably just have some toast and jam before I go out, maybe a small bowl of porridge if I can manage, and make sure I have had a good meal the night before.

I go for a bowl of porridge with sliced banana and honey, or super berry Granola. Then a gel or two during the run, and maybe some haribo sweets or jelly beans if I remember to sort them out.

All my LSR's are done on 2 slices of malt loaf. It works well for me. Keeps me full till after the run.

I think a good meal the night before is as important. I do all my general runs on an empty stomach, as it's so early and I've usually had a decent dinner. For long runs, I'm fine with a slice of toast and some peanut butter, about an hour or so before leaving.

Wriggling Snake
Porridge when cold, Special K when not, orange juice, water and flapjacks for the runs themselves

Oh I never thought about the meal the night before - I guess carbs like pasta/potatoes etc are best for that
