Hi, my forerunner 245 pacing screen is in 5 second steps. E.g. it shows current running pace at 5:30, 5:35 or 5:40 per km etc
I’m wondering if it simply rounds up/ down to the nearest 5 seconds i.e. pace during a run currently 5:30 per km

- or does my pace need to hit 5:25 before it shows current pace is 5:25
- or is pace based on the previous minute (for example)

Cheers

Sigh
I would say that current pace is approximate, lap pace is more reliable. Current pace can vary considerably with the gps signal depending on obstructions, cloud cover etc.

If it matters then you can set the 245 up to beep at you if you fall outside a pace range you specify (Click "Run" then up for Options; scroll down to Run Settings, select Alerts, Pace, and then set the parameters for Fast Alert and Slow Alert). Once you've set them, going through the same menu choices you can just turn it on or off, and choose either fast or slow alert, or both.

FWIW, I've used it twice - once in a training run and once in a 10 mile race - it's okay but I found that focussing on pace in isolation from other factors such as elevation and fuelling is generally not advisable.

As Sigh says use lap pace for more accuracy or download a CIQ app which gives you a rolling average pace over a number of seconds which will give you a more accurate 'current' pace.
