Folowing HermanBloom's post on doing his first marathon next year which generated some interesting debate, it looks like there are quite a few of us doing, or considering doing, our first marathon in Spring 2013. So let's have a thread where we can compare notes and generally support and motivate us through those long winter mornings/nights of training. Experienced marathoneers very welcome to pop in here for a cuppa and let us know how we're doing |

Nice one DiscoSteve. Doing my first marathon in May. Edinburgh. After getting fed up of not getting in London. Just managed 1.39 at GNR. I'm Now spending the time until I start my marathon schedule trying to improve my 10k and 5k times. I'll start the marathon schedule just after Christmas. |

Nice one Andy. Am doing Rome in March. Have a half marathon in October, then will have a few weeks of running for fun, then starting my schedule mid-November. Will update the header with names and races of first-timers if you want to post these or fmail me the details. |

Rome for a first marathon. I'm envious. It's somewhere I've always intended to visit.

Sorry, premature hitting of the enter key. I meant to add welcome. We are a very select group at the moment aren't we? |

That man from March
Morning all you will be first timers. Hope the training goes well. But don't get disheartened if you go through a bad patch. Just get a good training plan that suits your life style and try to stick to it. Try to find another local runner you can train with that helped me through my first marathon. Have done 3 now London x 2 and Edinburgh. Running Brighton this year

Hi Andy ...I certainly did, it was the Moonwalk - and I didn't appreciate the 'time on feet' thing til the day (we always walked so much quicker in training, but the masses changed our pace somewhat). Nor did I reckon on training like for like, it was pavement and we'd done the majority of our long walks off road ...and from small acorns, eh |
