Plymouth Half Marathon 1996. Found the medal for it yesterday when decluttering. I remember the finish was a couple hundred metres of steep uphill onto the Hoe.

St Albans Half, June 2010, having started running in Jan 2009. My target was 2:15, clearly too conservative as I got 1:52. I met a guy from work (experienced runner) at the start, and I was ahead of him until the the last mile where he cruised past me looking really relaxed and taunting me, while I gasped my way to the finish line. Bastard! |

If we disregard Race for Life, (I did the 5k annually then the 10k one year) it would have been the Linda Franks 4 mile (as it was then, now it's a 5 mile.) In retrospect I'm amazed I did a club race full of 'proper' runners before I'd even plucked up enough courage to join a club! I won a bottle of wine in the post-race raffle, joined the club that put on the race and haven't looked back since

Croydon Fun Run (5 miles) as a 13 year old. I'd never run more than two miles prior to that as our training sessions included a stopping point where our less quick team mates could catch us up. A group of used it as a warm-up for a cross country team event a few weeks later which we won surprisingly comfortably especially as we could even have entered in a lower age category. |

I found joining a club hard, I thought Cirencester AC were all fast, I am sure it is the moniker AC that did it.

2005 me would find it incredible that not only do I run, I enjoy it and have completed two marathons, and am a member of both a running club and cycle club! Even the 2008 me that ran that first race would probably be amazed I kept at it.
