I'm doing my first London this year and I'm travelling down with my other half. I think I'll be in before most of the masses - around 2:50-3:00 and I just wanted to know what everyone's thoughts were about the finishing area, meeting with loved ones there and then getting around the city (back to the hotel - Tower Bridge). Does the underground and the taxi system just go mental on the Sunday afternoon? Should I book train tickets for as late as possible?

The tube is your best bet - they're busy, but not unbearable and it's only a short journey on the district line if you wander to westminster or embankment.

The repatriation area in Horse Guards Parade is not too bad considering the number of finishers. I believe the VLM advice is to meet close a a letter of the alphabet that is not too common; i.e Q or X, as most people tend to meet at the initial letter of their surname. Also, don't sit down in Horse Guards. I did and my wife wandered around for ages as she could not see me!

Will be no problem when you finish. The Tube will also be fine as most people are still coming to the finish area at that time. You can also enjoy the looks on the Tube as you sit with your medal whilst mot are still running.

I met my family in Trafalgar square as I was finishing later (over 5 hours) and knew it gets busier. That was fine. Tube was fine too and you get free travel with your race number/medal

Finishing area is in the Chandos surely? Don't forget it's FREE travel on public transport for VLM finishers on the day. |

I thought that free travel only applied on the train to Greenwich/Blackheath/Maze Hill, or if you were injured and are heading to the finish to collect your belongings? Either you're bending the rules, Meglet, or things have become a bit more relaxed since I last did the London Marathon.

Free until 1700 I think, with your race number or medal.
