They are yum when fresh. I have recently been able to get 3 or 4 for 100 of your English pence here in the midlands.

Yep, in season you can get them 4 for a £1 and black bursa figs if they are black-eye purple, and when cut open road kill red (not stiff as a board road kill brown, which they go if you wait a day too long), then they are heavenly. But like Victoria plums which dwarf all other plums, all other varieties seem a bit pants.

A dried fig is nowhere near as disappointing as it sounds. Just need to locate that tiny, tough 'button' before consuming at will
