What about...(thoughts from the shower)...if flowers have a life span of say 2 or 3 weeks (irrespective of how often they are watered) - but: if they are picked by another fetchie then only the picker gets 1000 points whereas if no one picks them and they die off then the planter gets 1000 points. That way if I plant flowers where no one else runs I still get 1000 points and flowers aren't left cluttering the map; but if someone does pick my flowers (probably planting their own flowers in the process) the incentive is there for me to go and pick their flowers in revenge!

I'm confused about flowers anyway. Now I'm even more confused.

Giving unwatered flowers a finite life seems entirely sensible to me - whether it's two, three, four weeks or whatever is probably best driven by the extent of their proliferation.
On a related topic, there are still going to be heavily overgrown areas (continuing the horticultural analogy) on the map where a lone runner repaeatedly covers the same stretch of road/footpath planting more flowers as they water the existing ones. Maybe, in the fullness of time that could become an issue too with the obvious theoretical solution being to create some sort of limit on flower density. I suggest that's one for the future with Fetch being left to monitor the situation and to deal with one issue at a time.

Here's the new official explanation of flowers:
"You plant these every half a mile as you run through uncharted territory. This means you have to run outside your own circle, and outside everyone elses. Each flower you plant earns you 250 points, and has a picking value of 1000. You need to water your flowers by visiting them at least once every four weeks - but this also increases the value of the flower by a random 500-1000 points. If another runner picks your flower, you'll both pick up the value of the flower."

All seems perfectly clear to me - only one question - do we still receive points for watering flowers (the random increase?) or do we have to wait for harvesting to see any benefit?

You still get the 100 credits for watering - but it seemed like a bit much to squish it into the explanation.
