My blue triangle is in the reservoir this morning. I think I can get it, though.

mcshane: sorry and all that. I pretty much decided to stick a traffic light there before anyone else could :)

VJ - yep. Bugs are where the points are. I have a plan for them over the next couple of days (Assuming someone does not move them all again)

sheri - I think I am going to need a swimsuit and goggles for my run today and I am not planning on going near any water.

I won't be running near home til at least Monday.

I was planning to cycle to work and dump all the bugs in town but not in this weather! I do like it when someone dumps a line of bugs though because they're so easy to pick up and move. Two people trading bugs probably earn more from moving them bcd and forward than they lose in penalties on the days when they're in the wrong place.

I've been thinking about how 'good the game is for my running, and how it could be enhanced in that respect. These are immature thoughts that maybe have some potential for development.

Firstly, it's good that I have to run up and down more hills.
Secondly, I doubt if it's good that I have to run up cul-de-sacs.

Thirdly, I'm sure I'll get arrested in an exclusive cul-de-sac one day as the sort of madman Reigate doesn't like. (FYI it likes Tories).

Now here are some thoughts:

Can team-playing be encouraged? (e.g. everyone in an area works together to run bugs out of town/some coins that have to be run over by two Fetchies)
How about giving us the ability to set up for ourselves a speed stretch on one of our normal routes? Would only really work for Garmin users. But every time you ran that way, you could win or lose points based on how fast you were compared to previous attempts.
Also, let us put prizes on steep or long hills that we (or anyone else) can claim every time they're hit.

I'm not sure that this game is particularly suited to my running. It is quite strongly biased towards people who run only on roads and run mid-long distances everyday (if possible via different routes - i.e. not commuting).

If you run off-road in less-populated areas, there are less markers to collect, so you earn less, but you are still hampered by the bug problem. It's also very biased against people who do speedwork regularly because although I may do 5miles in a speed session, you only collect the markers that happen to be near the track or hill that you do the reps or intervals on. Since this usually is at least 2 of my 5/6 runs per week.

Of course, road cyclists have an even bigger advantage....

Not complaining, just an observation of the way the game is set-up.

Just thought of another issue - if you run for a club (like I do) - then you don't get to necessarily clear your local area of bugs very often, so the game perhaps favours those runners who always run from home?

As a road cyclist, riding up and down cul de sacs is pointless for training. Low speed and lots of junctions means that a training ride would not be worth doing, as it would be replaced with a low speed bug clearing ride. Cycling in towns is unpleasant and as I live rural, my markers are maonly in fields. I don't have any advantage and I prefer mountain biking or running to score my points.

The only advantage for cyclists is distance covered. My bike has been out a few times over the last couple of weeks - after years in the shed. I use a couple of mid distance runs to deposit bugs in a confined space just outside the 1 or 2 mile circle. Then pick them up on my bike and ride them several miles away in a straight line.

If you're going to start team work - then don't run the bugs out of town - just move them backwards and forwards - bugs is where the points are.

Maybe we should get RAID to sponsor next month!

I don't like bug clearing by bike. Too faffy to go up and down roads. BUT I agree that if you clear all your bugs by running to just outside your 1 mile circle then cycle through them and shift them further away you could potentially get lots of points because of the increased distance you can take them without the faff of picking them all up individually.

To be honest, the game doesn't work that well for me normally as I don't do much running near home usually and I suspect that I'll do maybe one or two "fetchpoint" runs per week once most of the bugs have been dumped in a nice line for me, but not pay too much attention to it on the other runs - and if there are competitions like the Garmin one there are enough local players that if I make an effort for a couple of runs I can get enough markers not to have to worry for the rest of the month.
