I agree with synge about a charge for marking something as inaccessible since I am in a fairly rural area. I've just looked at my circle and about 2/3rds of it is farmland. Sure, there are quite a few public footpaths going it it but that still leaves the vast majority of the farmland out of bounds unless by trespassing and damaging crops.
The "if you mark it inaccessible, and someone then runs through it, they take points from you?" is a reasonable suggestion, but there are definitely people to whom trespassing or causing damage would not be a barrier, and who shouldn't be rewarded at the expensive of a law abiding person.
I'm leaning towards R4R's idea of a time limit to an inaccessible point.

I had an infected bug which I marked inaccessible recently because it was within the grounds of a sports club. So while not accessible to me as I’m not a member, it must have been accessible to someone.

Also agree with Rosehip on the running vs cycling thing. I’ve a couple of roads I consider unsafe for pedestrians due to no footpaths, or even a verge to take refuge on. But I know from the trails of flowers in and out of my circle that they do get cycled on.

I like the idea of a time limit. I have lots of paths in my circle that are accessible in the summer, but tend to get waterlogged in the winter and hence are inaccessible. With a time limit, I could mark them as inaccessible for the winter months, but have them in play during the nicer weather

Might that not annoy the people who have permanently inaccessible areas near them?

Just wondering if this is a big problem or whether there's a risk of trying to design a sledgehammer to crack one rogue FetchPointer?
If Fetch is now monitoring for such behaviour, then any debate over whether a single point is accessible or not (and who to) is pretty marginal.
Then again, I'm not a serious contender at this game 😀
By the way, thank you for my bug and jewels today, Fetch!

I live next door to a military establishment - literally end of street and that is a huge chunk of circle inaccessible to me - but if a serving fetchie ran there it would be okay - indeed 12 years ago I could have ran there as lived inside the wire

Was thinking about this on my run to work. Not fair to add a cost to marking areas inaccessible if you are surrounded by farms or airbases. Neither would it be fair to penalise people if cyclists went through a fast, pavement free road that you would be crazy to attempt running on.
I'm not sure about a time-limit, we could be constantly re-marking permanently inaccessible areas.
We don't want to encourage risk-taking or trespassing so I don't think people should be rewarded for passing through inaccessible points but I do like the idea of someone passing through a marked point, un-marking it. No penalty, no reward, just housekeeping. If possible, maybe it could be limited to walks and runs and not rides to avoid dangerous roads?
