Koala Kerry
Hi everyone,

I thought for this months treasure hunt I would look at historic events that have taken place in July. Sorry, years of being married to a history teacher! Apologies for long post ( reading it not compulsory 😂).

1) 1st July 1838 Charles Darwin presented his paper on the theory of evolution.
2) 3rd July 1996 Stone of Scone ( symbol of the Scottish nation) returned to Scotland after it was taken by Edward 1st in 1296.
3)8th July 1822 poet Shelley drowned when his boat sunk in a storm.
4) 9th July 1877 inaugural lawn tennis championship was played on the croquet lawns at Wimbledon.

5) 10th July 138 Hadrian, Roman Emperor, died. He ordered the building of Hadrians wall to keep out the barbarian Scottish tribes.

6)13th July 1923 British parliament passed a law banning the sale of alcohol to under 18’s.
7) 21st July 1969 US astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon.

8) 22nd July 1946 bread is rationed almost a year after WW2. It was blamed on a poor harvest.
9) 25th July 1814 George Stevenson unveiled Blutcher - a steam powered locomotive.
10) 30th July 1966 England won the Jules Rimet trophy at Wembley after beating Germany 4-2 in extra time.

1. Mammal
2. Stone
3. Romance
4. Tennis

Thanks Koala Kerry. Looks interesting ... oh, I see Tom Tom has used that. OK, 'very interesting'.
The short version is posted on the side bar.

I'm looking for volunteers for Aug and beyond, anyone, whether you've set a list before or not. Or always wanted to, but never dared? Now's the time. Post here or fmail me.

Otherwise you'll get my 'emergeny' reserve list. And we probably don't need that.
