Worked with a Latvian girl for years: their tradition is a big family party on the evening of Christmas Eve, Church service, lots of food, lots of drink, exchange and open presents before midnight; Christmas day is spent sleeping it off. She thought the English were very strange for saving it all for Christmas day when everyone knows that the baby, the shepherds and the kings all arrived in the night. Was never sure if it was a purely Latvian thing or a more general East Europe. Then again, if you're Orthodox Christian, presents have to wait until January 6th...

Wow Duchess how interesting and didn't know about Jan 6th... then again I was brought up as a Methodist;-) It didn't quite work out for me though.
