I hate work SS too but very difficult to avoid in a small team. Gets to be a real nightmare when people are off sick and haven't brought theirs in before others finsih for Christmas. Last year I tried ignoring it for as long as possible but eventually someone piped up about it. This year I decided to ask early in the hope that the response would be 'lets not do it this year' but after a long pause the answer was sort of positive.

we've never done a SS at work, other than the small group of us girls who were mate anyway and was better than buying for each other. Thinking about it I would struggle to know what to buy some people who I work with so can appreciate it being difficult. But then why take part if you're not going to try to get something nice?

Because you want a present?
Seriously though there is someone who has been off sick with a poorly foot since before we drew the names. When I asked if she wanted in she said she did and then followed that by saying that she'd get her husband to bring hers in. When I started talking about drawing a name and getting it to her she announced she'd get a generic gift and we could label it! WTF!!!!!

I saw Meglet kissing Santa Claus
Generic gift? That wouldn't work in my workplace!
We've had some great ones, some people put quite a bit of effort into thinking of something suitable. Ours has fallen though this year due to recent staff changes, might be resurrected if we do our 'Christmas' drinks in January!

I think the thing that bothers me is that I went to a lot of effort and bought a thoughtful and nice gift. I got a bar of soap in a tin and a weird everyday sponge for in the bath. I have eczema so won't use the soap as I will almost certainly be allergic. It will join the rest of the unwanted smellies which will be recycled!!

Mum says that fudge has received a parcel addressed to him at theirs which means she assumes the parcel received yesterday could well be the SS pressie...if the SS addressed it to my proper name then yes it has arrived, if not I am still waiting x
