There is a lovely CCC site in Hayfield - not sure they'd want a big group there though :(

Somewhere in the peak district would be really nice - and there are rail-links all around "the edges" to reduce the number of cars needed

but good points made ^^^ Coniston is probably about central (maybe a tad west) if you are looking at all GB

Is it worth looking at scout campsites, they would at least allow groups. They also tend to have huts etc for those who don't want to camp in tents.

That's been suggested (by Homer on the FERC thread), and sounds like a good idea. My boy is in scouts in Derbyshire, so I'll have a chat with one of the leaders.

Many campsites have rally fields which are intended for group use. Check out ukcampsite.co.uk

Ooh, it's coming together!

I don't think there needs to be a rigorously independent assessment of centralness. Fetch can just say "It's here cos I found somewhere nice and it should be accessible" and we just need to work out how to do our travels!

I mean, Jenelopy and NZC would have a 24,000 mile round trip, if they don't happen to be in the UK at the time! So a few hundred miles from Scotland or Cornwallland or wherever prob isn't end of the world.

Or make it awkward for everyone and have it in Mallorca? Guarantees the weather at least! :-) G

Hayfield is very good, 2 or 3 good pubs, 2 good cafes, really good walks up onto Kielder and surrounds, Glossop parkrun nearby.

Derbyshire Scouts:-

They have 5 campsites....

I wonder if there is something in the Hayfield / Edale area whether it would be possible to oganise for Stu from Ranger Expeditions (who does the official Spine training) to come along and do some talks / guide some trails up kinder scout?

In general add some workshops, that kind of thing, not just a camp out.
