Really enjoyed the race though not so much the result. Good to see Mercedes improving. Ferrari’s strategy decisions do make you wonder sometimes.

So why does no one seem to want to drive for Alpine suddenly?

Odd move for Alonso. Even stranger for Piastri to turn down the seat.

Alonso to AM is surely $$$

Presumably Piastri is on a promise for a top seat - Danny Ric? Checo?

That was one helluva statement from Piastri - a kick in the face to Alpine. Perhaps they thought they'd force his hand and it backfired big time.

Alpine must think that they have some sort of contractual arrangement/first dibs with Piastri surely? To announce a new driver without him agreeing isn’t great management.

Possibly they announced in order to deter other teams signing him by being put off by legal challenges.

Weird times.

Daniel Ricciardo won’t be enjoying this.

There's a few articles out there about Alonso and Piastri. It doesn't seem all that complicated to me.

Alpine messed Alonso around a little in terms of what he wanted Vs what they were offering and then the surprise Aston Martin vacancy came up with more years (and therefore money even if you get same per year). In addition they're investing quite a bit in the team so potential for improvement.

Alpine were trying to place Piastri with Williams for a year instead of their car to accommodate Alonso. Piastri didn't like that so arranged his own deal with McLaren. Alpine now want to call him back as they don't have Alonso but he's not happy with that.

Even though DR has another year left and every intention to see it out... he must be a bit worried.

Its also been rumoured that the option for Alpine to move Piastri into its F1 team was 31st July and they hadnt met this deadline (due to them not knowing Alonso was leaving).

Albon confirmed for 2023 at Williams.
