Two male Blackcaps at the garden fat balls.
As for Bewicks I'm roughly the same as DT although I did see a group of 12 here in South East Wales 56 years ago!
Yeah, I remember YOC too... the modernised JBRC at the time!

We had a very good YOC trip organiser at our school: Mr Kitchen. I remember him very fondly. He was a gentle soul who dressed in tweed jackets and knit ties. Great guy

Today's highlight from my run, an enormous flock of siskins twittering away high up in alder trees by the river. It was almost like white noise.

I went on a great YOC holiday to North Norfolk when I was 14/15, sadly I've now no real recollection of what we saw.

I had so many adventures like that as a child but I wonder how many parents would now be willing to put their child of that age on a long distance bus alone, for a week away with only a minimal idea of where they were going and only the odd payphone call as contact? Though by the time I was that age my parents had been used to me disappearing on two buses across Nottingham from the age of 10 to watch cricket at Trent Bridge with my mates so I guess they were just used to it and I probably didn't give them much option 😂

Saw a heron snaffle a fish off a little egret today. Fish was too big for the egret to swallow and the heron menaced it until it dropped it and gulped the fish down. Also some fieldfare and redwings.

DT, sounds very like our YOC teacher, Mr Martin, even down to the 'uniform'. I think he's the only teacher whose name I remember from that age.

Just had a good catch up read 😀

We have a newly-wed pair of Robins 😀 I assume they are ‘together’ as there isn’t any fighting when they’re both near the bird feeder and they wait for each other. Obviously early days of wedded bliss.

Dave gave the bush/Ivy bit a good trim back a month or so ago so that the birds should be able to see if the Sparrowhawk’s around. It better not take these two out!
