Thinking of getting a Garmin fenix 5. Is it great or a waste of cash!?

There are 3 Fenix5's - 5, 5S and 5X. Also the 935 is a much lighter Fenix 5 in disguise. The 935 is the best watch I've ever owned. There are a few complaints in the Garmin Forum over ANT+ connectivity and GPS tracks, but I think that's the minority. There are less complaints on the 935.
I guess the decision is down to you, what do you want out of a watch? Also what do you have now (so you can see if the feature upgrades are worth it.

If I got a fenix 5, it would be 5s. I'm male but with very thin wrists.
The 935 looks good. Bit lighter than 5s (which is lighter than 5) but wondering if I would notice weight difference between 5s and 935?

I have a Fenix 5s (female) upgraded from F925 and I love it. Better battery and a nicer look. Yep I am that shallow :-D

The F3 HR will do most of the stuff an F5 will, so unless you need the newer features (prob less than 5% of users?) you can save a lot of cash.

Another perspective would be that it kicks the arse of the Fenix 3 (non-HR). I bought the 5 rather than an FR935 because I have a habit of banging watches on large bits of rock and the 5 is a bit more solid, but if you don't do that, the 935 could well be a better bet for GPS trace. The firmware is almost identical. One thing that works on the F5/935 firmware but not F3 variants is gimporter, which lets you download courses in gpx or FIT format from 3rd party sites via an Android phone. It'll never work on older watches because the version of ConnectIQ they support can't import the course file. But maybe I'm just the 5%.

Don't think I use very much of these, but I still went for a 5s over a 3HR or 935 because it looks better as an everyday watch on my skinny wrists.
Stolen from DC Rainmaker, what's new in the 5s/5/5X compared to the 3HR.
