Ooooh (Not an option for us, I've already promised the local ED that if I'm not working I'll go along all tinselled up and volunteer.)

Tempted, but without the knee-deep mud it won't be the same. It's also a long journey just to be beaten by an octogenarian

Quick question from me - we’re looking at booking our next week of Wainwright bagging and want to tick off Scafell and pike this time before MrHB gets much older. Where’s there closest village/town/hamlet to look for a cottage? It’s not obvious to me that there’s anywhere closer than Keswick

Is there anything in Eskdale that suits you? But I guess the best area rather depends on the paths you might take. Any thoughts on routes? |

We once stayed in a little cottage by the church at Wasdale Head, within easy walking distance of Scafell Pike, Scafell, Yewbarrow and several other must-do peaks. It's a bit remote, but there's a little shop and a pub.

Sorry, I fell asleep last night. there’s a couple of routes I’m looking at, both of which start from Wasdale Head. I wasn’t finding any accommodation near there, but will keep looking. Thanks

I was just coming back to type that Synge, thanks! Looked at a few spots along the coast that provide good access to that SW in general. Decided on a place in Gosforth in the end though, I don't think it's the most scenic spot but defo convenient. There are some lovely looking but pretty remote looking bits of accommodation in Eskdale and Wasdale if you are looking for something quieter / a bit closer in. |

I think my main objective is to avoid having to drive over Wrynose any more than is absolutely necessary

It's a nice drive in from Cleator Moor.
