Not been on here for a bit - used to spend bloody hours so stepped away (and got addicted to facebook and instagram instead) I have a problem I've got a big birthday coming up next week and the wife said she'd buy me a gadget. At the moment I've got a garmin forerunner (old style, bottom of range 305) and a garmin bike computer (edge 200, about £65). I've also got her fitbit hand-me-down which is one of the ones with 5 dots and no screen (flex) What I want is something to combine all of these PLUS a few notifications from my iphone. The first thought was obviously an apple watch but I may wait until they get a bit better / more advanced. My second thought was a Garmin Fenix as I think it does all of the above PLUS swimming which I'm going to get back into. My priorities are: Steps per day etc Running Cycling Notifications Swimming I had heard that the Fenix was a bit of a nightmare - what do you think I should get? Any thoughts? |

Hiya John, nice to see you Have you had a look at the TomTom Multisport, or some of their more recent models? I'm not saying it's a magic bullet, and it has a few things that could do with improving (don't they all), but I like mine. |

I've got the fenix 3 does all of the above you've listed and I've not had any of the issues I had also read about prior to buying - I love it

I have an F3. The firmware is way better than it was early on. Mine has hardly been off my wrist since I bought it (sleep tracking, y'know). Earlier Fenix models are not what you want; notifications crucify the battery life and they don't step count. |

Oh, and Happy G makes a good point, there are other watches which are cheaper than the F3 and do most of what it does. If you don't want a barometric altimeter and course navigation, maybe look at 230/235/630, which I think all support notifications.

If you definitely want Swimming, then the 230/235/630 can't track that. The Vivoactive as a more basic one, or the 920XT as a full blown Triathlon watch, would be your best bet - check the dcrainmaker site for excellent reviews of both |
