I will be in Exeter next Saturday morning and have plans on running down the canal to Dawlish. I think it will be about 15 miles but not sure if the terrain underfoot.

Does anyone know?

The terrain will definitely be underfoot, unless you trip up, of course. HTH, YMMV.

It should be fine - mostly cycle path/good firm towpath I believe (I've only run from the Quay to just below the Countess Wear bridge, but OH has crossed from Exmouth on the Starcross ferry and cycled back up to Exeter and found it straightforward.

Actually, now I think about it, I have cycled along part of that route. As LD says, it’s a mixture of cycle path and tow path, generally good with the odd narrow section and muddy spot.

Thanks Dio. Hoping it won’t be too muddy as I’m planning on setting off in the dark.

It's almost all tarmac. The trail on the other side to Exmouth is just as good, if not better.

Thanks for the suggestions all, it was a cracking route and from St Davis station to the sea front at DW it was just 13.1 miles. Definitely one I will do again.

Got something to say?
