Ok, after a bit more research this morning, my symptoms seem to suggest I either need to try Cimetidine or Omeprazole. I think. Former is a H2 receptor blocker and the latter is a proton-pump inhibitor. Will look at the mechanisms etc and see which is best, but the above article suggests that Cimetidine might be a better match to my exact symptoms. It might also depend on which I can get without prescription. Will go and get some this tomorrow and see if it makes a difference this weekend. |

Oh, and I think that there is definitely a stress (nerves) -based component to why I get it as well, but I'm not sure how I could treat that.

Interesting article. My GERD has come back big time in the last couple of weeks. Horrible feeling when running Think a repeat of my Omeprazole prescription is in order. Hope you get it sorted rf.

I am the same above 30k like you. Sunday it struck at 19 miles. Would start to run then the stomach would complain. Not nice. |

Also, and having read the article, I would be cautious with acid inhibitors if you have eaten recently. They will allow more rapid gastric emptying which will result in higher osmolarity small bowel content which could worsen things at the other end. I think whatever you try you should test carefully. Ranitidine is a better drug than cimetidine and will do the same thing (without moobs) and is readily and cheaply available over the counte. Omeprazole is available OTC, but remains quite expensive. |

Johnny - are you suggesting that it will lead to diarrhoea? This may not be an issue because if you read back, I get nervousness-related constipation. Hipps suggested taking it the day before and the morning of the race. And would only be for longer races. |
