An initiative to get all primary school children to run a mile every schoolday was mentioned on the radio news yesterday morning, but not subsequently. I can find nothing about it online. Is it a real thing or did a journalist misunderstand something and quietly remove the story?

I remember hearing a report about this a few months ago, and then again on Radio 4 yesterday. I think it is just a few schools at the moment.

My boy has gone into school today in running kit. They're doing a Sport Relief mile today.

That'll have to come from the goodwill of the headteachers, seeing as how the National Curriculum was effectively abolished in the budget.

It was started at a school in Stirling I think, our school has been doing it at least 3 times a week. It only takes about 15 minutes out of the school day. The younger ones at least initially only do a portion of the mile.

My kid's school are running 1,000 miles today (roughly 5,000 laps around the school) for Sports Relief.

They normally have a running club on Friday morning anyway but they will be running at break time along with the rest of the school as well today.

Daily Mile was started at St Ninian's in Stirling. There was an article in the Gaurdian last September. I persuaded my kids school to look at it but it didn't seem to take off that well. Not sure what brought it back to the radio yesterday.

Article is here:
