An initiative to get all primary school children to run a mile every schoolday was mentioned on the radio news yesterday morning, but not subsequently. I can find nothing about it online. Is it a real thing or did a journalist misunderstand something and quietly remove the story?

I remember hearing a report about this a few months ago, and then again on Radio 4 yesterday. I think it is just a few schools at the moment.

My boy has gone into school today in running kit. They're doing a Sport Relief mile today.

That'll have to come from the goodwill of the headteachers, seeing as how the National Curriculum was effectively abolished in the budget.

It was started at a school in Stirling I think, our school has been doing it at least 3 times a week. It only takes about 15 minutes out of the school day. The younger ones at least initially only do a portion of the mile.

My kid's school are running 1,000 miles today (roughly 5,000 laps around the school) for Sports Relief. They normally have a running club on Friday morning anyway but they will be running at break time along with the rest of the school as well today. |

Daily Mile was started at St Ninian's in Stirling. There was an article in the Gaurdian last September. I persuaded my kids school to look at it but it didn't seem to take off that well. Not sure what brought it back to the radio yesterday. Article is here: theguardian.com |
