The rule is not just about three violations, it's three in a specified period, which the parameters of his case didn't meet. Seems fair enough given ambiguity/inaccuracy in how the rules are drafted.

Yep bad rules are still rules. Another example of why the media shouldn't go to press with this stuff before the technicalities are sorted out - no one wins from the way this one has played out.

Be interested to see how the BBC deal with it, there was no condemnation of Armistead when she got banned and everybody seemed perfectly happy to cheer Christine Ohuruogu, despite her ban.

Sorry, for Armistead I mean when she managed to avoid a van on a technicality

Anyone know why Karl Langford, Andy Butchart and Mo Farah are slagging off Matt Yates on Instagram?

It goes back to the 800m heats / final at the British Champs (but probably before). Cram made mention of it in the BBC Forum, some allegation that Yates was engineering a pacemaker for his athlete (Webb). I've read directly from Yates a counter to that, so in all honesty I don't know what the position really is. But I get the impression that Yates provides a good line to journalists so often his side of the story appears to be picked up in the press. e.g. the Langford / official incident. Apparently (so say Langford's supporters) the official had actually grabbed Langford twice first. Doesn't make his response any better, but that's not an aspect I'd read reported elsewhere. I've engaged with Yates quite a few times over a number of years on a facebook group, and he is robust and very self assured in his opinions, but has always given me the impression of being well informed. We fall out often though, as he basically believes Nike is the root of all evil, all distance runners from East Africa are dopers and that Coe / Radcliffe et al provide significant protection for certain athletes. I won't accept that view without evidence, and thus we end up falling out. The bottom line is that they are all closely associated to high profile British atheltes and just like the sprinters "camps" a few years ago, there is starting to develop quite acrimonious relationships between them. And quite a few of the BBC pundits etc all have their roots in the same camp, which winds up people like Yates I think. |

Join up the I Was Or Am A Runner facebook group if you want to hear it from the other side. Not quite as bonkers as the parkrun discussion group, but does have a tendency to kick off every now and again!

British Athletics should be publishing their selections today shouldn't they? Meeting to finalise selections for Doha was yesterday. The IWOAAR rumour yesterday was that Langford had been selected as the controversial pick for the 800m.
