Effects of Blood Pressure Medication

Sweaty FrankLast October, I began taking HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) for slightly elevated blood pressure. I know that this is a diuretic, reducing my ability to absorb salt. I am concerned that it might be contributing to a recent problem with cramping. I have been unable to avoid them on long runs (over 18 miles) in warm weather. Anyone have experience with this, or anyone with knowledge of this drug, can you confirm? Also, I find it difficult to hold the pace I used to. I have lost about a minute per mile. Also possibly related?
