Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Hi all, I've emailed Edinburgh Marathon to see if I can get a place after a dissapointing run in Milan. Not sure if they are still taking good for age entries or not but I noticed the closing date for transfers was 31st March. Hope everyone's training is going well.

Ok, I'm happy :-), but I think there's room for some improvement :-). That one felt far too sore from the early stages so I fancy another crack at it before the summer. No news from Edinburgh Marathon HQ yet though.

I'm looking forward to this. I ran my first marathon in Rome last month. I was a bit disappointed with my time - just under 5.5 hours. Loved the whole thing though and aim to knock a chunk off that time in Edinburgh. You can check out my thoughts on Rome here:

Hi guys, I'm also doing Edinburgh- my first marathon!

Can anyone offer me a bit of advice? My training was going great- I was getting out 4 times a week, doing well on my speed work and long runs. I got up to 17 miles and then got a cold/virus that floored me for 2 weeks. I have been back running this week and feel good, but I wondered if missing 2 whole weeks of training will have much affect? I'm worried as I only have 3 or 4 weeks to fit in more long runs before tapering..

Also, on a completely different note- I'm worried that as much of the route seems to be along the coast, that I will be battling the wind. Has anyone ran this course before and does it tend to have strong winds?

Thanks in advance, from a rather anxious first timer!

Hi LisaLamb, firstly, welcome to the fetch site. :)

2 weeks off training, in the grand scheme, won't have much affect on your fitness. You could switch the last 2 weeks long runs from your plan into the next two weeks and then get back to your plan as prescribed. I assume you are following a plan here?

Regarding wind, this is Scotland, we have (probably) more wind turbines per head of population that anywhere in the world. It's a goal of fat Alex. It could be windy, it may not be. We'll all have the same issues regarding weather on the day. You can't control the weather, concentrate on the things you can control: training, nutrition, hydration, gear etc.

All the best with your training and the race itself. :)

LL welcome to fetch. 3 to 4 weeks is plenty of time to fit a couple of long runs.

Welcome, LisaLamb.

I only did my first LSR on Saturday, and I'm happy with how my training's going. It can get very windy on that part of the coast, but in the Lothians late May tends to be the best weather of the year - I'm much more worried by the heat!

Hello LLamb - I wouldn't worry about your hiccup. If you don't mind, can I point you in the direction of my wee blog - I picked up injury (turned out to be Patellar Tendinitis) in my training for my first marathon a couple of months ago. In my case it was my own fault - running silly intervals and upping my mileage too quickly. But I got round. And you will too.

On the wind - lets hope if it's 'breezy' it's a westerly - then it'll blow us towards the wide East Lothian sky.
