Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

RJ, Too late I entered about a montn ago and didnt realise it was GSI until I was entered.

Ive had issues with them for years. I once entered the Edinburgh marathon and Kilomathon together a year in advance....when the Kilomathon didnt take off they reduced and reduced prices but I got no offer of anything like money off another event, they just trousered my money and ignored my e-mails.

GSi took over the Jogscotland events last year as well. I used to do their 5k in Glasgow Green every year but when it went to Big Weekend it was time to give it a miss.

I was going to enter the Scottish half marathon as it was promosed to be fast and flat, but the entry fee ( £28) put me off. THis debacle has made my mind up.

I realise everyone makes mistakes and should be given chance to rectify their mistakes. However a company that clearly has no regard for its customers i.e. us runners really only understands one language and that unfortunately would be for thousands of us to not give them our business. The results thing even if corrected through pressure from Scottish Athletics etc really does leave a bitter taste as clearly the data protection line is a lie and when you have no trust left what is there!?

I really do not understand them sometimes as their reasons are just ludicrous. You couldnt make up some of the things they both up, yet year after year there is something new.

Their timimg was also screwed up, I sprinted when I saw the clock to finish in 1:24:54...but my garmin said 1:25:12 and the official result was 1:25:13....so the clock at the start wasnt co-ordinated with the actual start time.

I will think long and hard before entering their events again - problem is that if I dont I have to look further afield as they are my local events

That xempo post is interesting. After a triathlon rival of mine ran it, and I couldn't find his result on the official page, I've been following this story with interest. Also criticised in the Scotsman: scotsman.com

I don't get the data protection argument at all, it's hardly sensitive personal data. Is there not normally a clause when signing up about agreeing to published results anyway?

I have not had the chance to read back over some of the posts. A few quick thoughts on the weekend. I was there pacing a client and had been sent a incorrect start pen (brown when client was looking for around 3 hours). Thought this would be a problem until I got to Edinburgh and just had the sneaking feeling the organisation might not be that amazing. I was correct. Happily strolled into the first pen....good for me and my client...but probably not ideal in general terms. Mile markers were hopelessly out for a big race (26.2 is 26.2 IMO so I guess not the biggest issue in the world...certainly made pacing trickier though! ;). Very little information in advance or through the weekend when my feeling was pretty much 'you pay us £50 we give you a number, a start, a finish and some water'. Perhaps thats the way it should be, but the whole thing just felt flat to me. Not looking for London or anything but there are a host of other mid sized City marathons that really do get it right. Course was fine but I am imagine a bit tough if you are towards the back as it looked hemmed in and soul destroying watching 8-9 miles worth of people coming the other way. Finish was amazing with crowd really close, TDF style! and of course the first mile was lovely around Arthurs Seat. generally though I am not sure I would ever run it for myself or recommend it to a client again. The results thing - I think there is something in that Xempo article. Just a bit bizarre really.
