I don't think so, I think it is more to do with the current condition of the field containing the cricket pitches and the re-seeding of part of that field because of the building works.

The new route still contains the football and rugby fields on the other side of the river from the sports centre, though you are right, a path is beginning appear

Liked the new route, preferred the hard ground after the sharp turn rather than the soft field

Over 200 runners again and on a day when the Harrier League is on !

New cafe at Maiden Castle is good :-)

Last runner today was just over 37min so that was my fastest time as tailrunner :-)

In spite of the ice yesterday the even went ahead on an altered course - all on grass

For those of you who know the course, the altered course started the other side of the bridge, followed the edge of the football and rugby fields as usual. Then instead of going on the path, we kept on the grass back to the bridge. Repeat. On the 3rd lap, start was the same, but when we got to where the 2K marker is on the normal route we turned right and went towards the river and then right again at the river and back to the bridge and the finish. So on the third lap the rugby fields were missed out. Slightly long course, but the grass was fine for running on :-) 101 runners

Next week's race (Christmas Eve) starts at 9.15 and it is a Santa run so bring your outfit !
