I've never heard that one either. I am keen to find out whether donkeys have a particular preference for strawberries though.

The last pope but one was into his hillwalking in his younger days, so I imagine he did use the woods from time to time.

Several recent mentions of A A Milne have reminded me that he has written the definitive work on animal nutrition. He tells us that the diet of donkeys is almost entirely thistles.
A donkey would, of course, eat strawberries but only to be polite and would regard it as a Pointless Extravagance.
