In Spanish 'summery' is veraniego. Summer as in 'summer day' is estival.

And from my Spanish dictionary I learn that the word aestival exists in English. I suggest we start using it asap.

Vereniaga in relation to a bicycle, but yes.

So is it "Bicicleta veraniega', which I opted for, or 'Bicicleta verano' which feels 'righter'? Or are we actually saying it is 'bicicleta estival', in which case I'm going to throw my toys out of the pram and give up.

For SR, from said higher authority:

I’m afraid in Russian you can only say ‘letnii den’, which is closer to ‘summery day’, but because the structure ‘summer day’ in Russian is rather clumsy -‘den’ leta’-, it is also translated into English as ‘summer day’ - letnii den’

So essentially Russian has the same problem as we do.

The Americans have 'estival' rather than 'aestival'. I suppose Hibernal for "of winter" is similarly derived to aestival. Classic crossword clue answer.

Quite right too.

How do they suggest constructing that, given the absence of the gerund in Russian?

They use 'нельзя' ('prohibited', 'forbidden') with the infinitive, Glenn: "Здесь прыгать нельзя" - "Here to jump [is] forbidden". The order of the last two words seems to be fairly flexible judging by other examples.

Yes, they would be interchangeable.

Madame reckons that in practice it would simply be не прыгайте

(for the rest of you, that's a straightforward imperative 'do not jump)
