"и" can mean "even", as well as "and", and "кошке" is in the dative case, so I think the literal translation would be something like "A kind word even to a cat is pleasing".

Poulet, Pollo, Pollo for the Latin languages (but Portugese has a completely different word), Hen, Huhn in English & German, but Kip in Dutch, iâr in Welsh, ‎kurczę in Polish
