Never knew this thread was here but already reading it from the start I have found a couple of things that may help us. We have just bought replacement doors for our kitchen cupboards as there is nothing wrong top with the carcasses but think the hinges may need moved slightly so interesting to read about filling holes. Might still need a joiner to do a couple of tricky bits if OH doesn’t feel comfortable tackling.

Has anyone got a cream sink? I am replacing ours and fancied cream and although they say they are stain resistant I just wondered if anyone could shed their experience. Thanks

New question if anyone knows

I have a cable running a socket in my shed at present (it has a cable running to socket and back to RCD for some reason)

I want to wire in a new ip66 socket and a set of lights. For the lights, I am going to take the feed to the switch and then up to a 5 way junction box to wire the four strip lights in parallel.

Question 1. Should the socket be wired in series or parallel with the lighting circuit?

Question 2. The RCD is 13A (I think) do I need a fuse box before the the lighting circuit with 5A?(if the RCD is 30A, does this change?)

What I then want to do is send a cable off to my greenhouse to power 2 separate sockets and a light.

Question 3. I plan to split the line as it comes into the shed via a junction box and run one to do the above and then run the line round my shed and out to the greenhouse. Any issues with this

General comments welcomed too.

Note I plan to get an electrician to check the wiring to the shed and wire in the live connection. It will also be upgraded when I build an extension and run a new cable to my shed

Hello all. Hopefully there are still some DIYers left on Fetch.

I'm still having issues with a draft from somewhere in my house (I know roughly where, but can't locate the exact spot).

Knowing it would also be useful to have some insights into other options on what I can do to make my house even more energy efficient, I have stuck a job on checkatrade to see if I can find a surveyor who might look at everything and give me some ideas on what I can do.

One company has replied - £900 (£750+VAT)! That seems extortionate and way out of my price range - I was expecting maybe £250 inc VAT. Is this a normal quote for this kind of survey work? Or should I be looking elsewhere?

I simply can't afford to drop best part of £1k on a report.

rf_fozzy we used advisors from a local Green Transition Area group which was much cheaper than a specialist company.
It might be worthwhile looking to see if there is a similar group in your area.

Thanks ER - useful to know. I'll have a look tomorrow and see if I can find one

I told the company £900 was waaay to much and I could not afford that. They've come back to me this evening asking what my budget is.

I wonder what they'll say if I was expecting £250 Inc vat as a maximum...

200 plus VAT won't get you much, I think you were being optimistic. That's going to cover about an hour on site plus travel time, and an hour writing a report. It's not going to go very detailed in that amount of time.

Charging £100-200 per hour of work? That's extortion.
