57.5 Degrees of Pain
Anyone who remembers back to 1979 knows this is a terrible idea!

Though a retrospective application of this rule to the Brexit vote would be very amusing.

Fourth Conservative prime minister in 6 years and none of them supported in Scotland gives SNP further ammunition, along with Brexit, to claim that another referendum on Scottish Independence is justified.

Wonder how Truss will handle it? She'll want to just shut it down. But won't that create more sentiment supporting the argument that Westminster is out of touch with and disdainful of the people of Scotland?

Tough times ahead, in so many ways. :-) G

Surelynot
Truss was elected by just 47% of the available vote. Would fail on the mooted Referendum Bill proposals.

How do Scottish readers feel about this verse of God Save The King?

Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the King!

Most of us are aware that it's there and don't hold it personally against the current or recently deceased monarch. How do English readers feel about the refrain of the current Scottish national anthem?

I think all national anthems should be abolished personally, but then I’m against nationalism in general

That verse refers to the role of Marshal Wade in putting down the Jacobite uprising. It’s a historical reference that was considered appropriate in 1745 when GSTQ was first used as the National Anthem but isn’t used today for obvious reasons

I’ve run along quite a few of his (Wades) roads in the Highlands and I think the WHYW is made up of some of them.
