If I don't use contacts then I use Adidas Evil Eyes with insert that clips in the back. Got various lenses for them and if my prescription changes then I only need a new insert.

I've been wearing spies most of the time since I was 11. For cycling I usually wear my normal glasses. if it is raining I wear contacts, if it is very sunny I wear contacts and cheap wraparound sunglasses. If I have some prescription sunglasses to hand I might wear those. If it is changeable weather that may rain a bit I go with contacts if I can be bothered with the whole process of putting them in.

I am fairly blind so if I take my specs off I'm edging towards dangerous on a bike.

There are two problems with prescription sunglasses for cycling:
1) Rain/sweat. It just makes them tricky to see through & stopping to mess about with them is a pain on your own and worse if you are in a group. The glasses with inserts (RX or otherwise) are marginally worse that directly glazed prescription lenses because there are more surfaces for sweat & gunk to get onto.
2) Ever go from sunshine into shade? Into a tunnel of trees? Or an actual tunnel? Every so often the sensible thing to do is take your sunglasses off an ride without them because it is too dark. Photochromic lenses do make up for this a bit but they are still very often slow to change, especially when going into lower light conditions. If I am wearing prescription glasses and take them off I still won't be able to see! That second one is very much a problem for people who really need their glasses.

I don't have any posh sport specific prescription sunglasses. I have seen there adidas ones Idio mentions and they look quite good to me ( the insert is visible but it doesn't look all that odd). If you can get on with daily disposable contacts then I'd say they are the best solution. If not then it depend show stage your eyes are - if your prescription is likely to stay the same for the next 10 years then a few pairs of different shades of prescription glasses (or photochromics) are ok. If you are in your teens or 40+ then the odds are your prescription may change a fair bit in the next few years so inserts are going to work out a lot cheaper.

On the rain front - a cassette (cycling cap) under your helmet is your best bet

I tried everything but the only ones that work are oakleys. Very expensive but I am accumulating in stubs and drabs. Started with frame and Sun lenses, then bought orange lenses. Now I am saving up for clear ones...

I use contacts with ordinary Oakleys. However I bought some new Oakleys recently from these people rxsport.co.uk who specialise in prescription stuff.

I have a pair of Oakley Flak Jackets with the reactolite (transitions?) lenses. *EYE WATERINGLY* expensive but very very good on the bike. Too much weight in the lenses to run in.

It's 'casquette' btw - can also be used to have a pooh in if you get caught out during that long road race.

I suspect PG knows that; autocorrect on the other hand probably doesn't.

What do you do after having a shit in your chapeau? Carry it around? Put it back on?

Yes I twigged the autocorrect thing, but if I'd suggested shitting in a cassette you'd have thought it very odd.

According to Mr Phillips, the French teacher who told me this in the 1990s, it would get thrown over a hedge... which would be a surprise for small boys looking for Tour race souvenirs.
