Eek! That really shouldn't happen! A couple of things. Firstly on the bottom of the forks, next to the drop outs, there should be a couple of lugs. The quick release should sit above these. They're designed as an extra line of defence in case the QR isn't fitted correctly. Secondly, have you been using the QR correctly? You do occasionally see people not understanding the mechanism and just spinning the lever around until it comes tight against the dropout. Unfortunately this can easily work loose. Instead it should be spun until close to the fork and then the lever flipped over. This operates the cam and you should feel a reasonably distinct increase in load on the lever as you flip it. You want it so whilst not actually difficult to unflip if you want to undo the QR, it takes at least a reasonably hard push to do so. It's by needing such a distinct push that the mechanism becomes stable and hopefully not susceptible to coming undone. |

I suspect it's something along those lines, unfortunately I haven't used/checked it at all recently so I had no idea it was getting close to popping off! I reckon something has been knocked over time taking it in and out of the bike shed, and like I say, it's not something I'd ever think to check before heading out

I actually had similar the other week, thankfully realised in time that front wheel felt a bit loose so stopped, and the quick release lever had somehow opened up so it had then worked loose. Tightened it up and no issues since.

I cycled to work and home yesterday. 7 miles to work and 7.7 home on a different route. I enjoyed it despite sweating my **** off. In fact I may even do it again tonight.

Got another ride in this morning: fetcheveryone.com/t-17556102 Backside a little bit better (not so sore until later in the ride), and I tried without gloves (to give fingers more freedom), and used the tops a bit more. Lovely route A new best half marathon benchmark in the middle of that somewhere, and overall a wee bit quicker than my last ride, as well as 6 miles longer. Ssshhhh, I’m actually quite enjoying it

Nice! I headed out on the MTB today for an early ride before it gets too hot. 6ish miles on the road to the local MTB trails for a quick blast and then back. I don't really remember having a sore backside when I cycled regularly but it was pretty uncomfortable today. I think riding on the road is tougher - I get out of the saddle to absorb the rough bits when off road which I don't do on the road. None of the hills were as bad as anticipated though and I enjoyed it (even the long steady climb). I currently have a dilemma. Apart from a hard tail MTB I have a road bike. It's fairly old but mostly in good condition apart from (I think) needing new cables. The friends I am most likely to bike with have hybrids, MTB and fat bikes. Do I try and get the roadies gears sorted out and use it OR do I invest in a hybrid for longer journeys with my pals. |
